Who We Are:
Currently there are over 1,800 Florida Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics/Florida Pediatric Society (FCAAP/FPS) members who promote the health and welfare of Florida’s children
(newborns, infants, children, adolescents and young adults),
and support pediatricians and pediatric
specialists as the best qualified provider of their healthcare.
History:
The inaugural session of the FPS was held on April 27, 1936 aboard the Steamship
Florida. In 1951, Warren Quillian, a Floridian, was installed
as President of The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
As first Southeasterner to hold this office, he encouraged
the formation of a state Chapter to carry out committee and
other activities for the benefit of children. The Florida
Chapter was formed on April 27, 1952. After years of study
and deliberation, the FPS and the FCAAP merged. The Constitution
and Bylaws for the newly combined group were ratified on
September 22, 1967.
