To all members of the Florida Pediatric Society, the Florida Academy of
Family Physicians, Florida County Health Departments and Florida Association of
Community Health Centers, who provide primary care to Medicaid eligible children.

As I hope you know, in April of 2008, the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) announced that it will reimburse physicians, advanced registered nurse practitioners and physician assistants for certain oral health preventive procedures. The program is functioning very well and many Medicaid eligible children are now receiving services and medical practitioners are being reimbursed. As of December 1, 2009, over 15,000 children have received the oral health preventive services from over 231 medical practitioners from 32 different counties, and the practitioners have been reimbursed on a fee-for-service basis. In addition, several County Health Departments and Federally Qualified Community Health Centers have done so. In addition, we are able to provide assistance to those medical offices who encounter difficulties with the reimbursement process.

In order to facilitate implementation of these procedures in your office, we are offering free in-office education to physicians and their staffs. The presentation covers all the main steps required for appropriate, high-quality service to patients and reimbursement from Medicaid.

The presentation takes about 1 hour and can be scheduled at the convenience of you and your staff, i.e., over lunch hours, early in the morning, etc. The presentation is made by a specially trained dental hygienist. This is not a commercial presentation pushing any products and is not sponsored by any companies. There are no costs to you for this educational programming; all costs are paid by federal and state grants to my office. We also provide a detailed procedure manual. This activity is endorsed by both state professional organizations.

If you would like to schedule an educational presentation, please email me at fcatalanotto@dental.ufl.edu or call my office at 352-273-5984. We will then have somebody contact you to schedule the presentation at your convenience.

Sincerely,

Frank Catalanotto, DMD
Professor of Community Dentistry and Behavioral Science
