Welcome
to the home page of Florida Chapter of The American Academy
of Pediatrics/Florida Pediatric Society. The AAP is
a national organization composed of over 60,000 pediatricians.
There are currently over 2,500 members in Florida. The purpose
of the Florida Pediatric Society/Florida Chapter of AAP is
to promote the health and welfare of Florida’s children
(newborns, infants, children, adolescents and young adults),
and to support and promote the pediatricians and pediatric
specialists who are the best qualified provider of their healthcare.
The inaugural session of the Florida Pediatric
Society (FPS) was held on April 27, 1936 aboard the Steamship
Florida. In 1951, Warren Quillian, a Floridian, was installed
as President of The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
As first Southeasterner to hold this office, he encouraged
the formation of a state Chapter to carry out committee and
other activities for the benefit of children. The Florida
Chapter was formed on April 27, 1952. After years of study
and deliberation, the FPS and the Florida Chapter of the
American Academy of Pediatrics (FCAAP) merged. The Constitution
and Bylaws for the newly combined group were ratified on
September 22, 1967.
