The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is launching the 2025-2026 Safe Sleep Champion Network (SSCN). FCAAP has been selected to be a part of this nationwide initiative to support pediatrician education and connections with fatality review to inform local safe sleep outreach. We are recruiting a Safe Sleep Champion to represent our chapter on the SSCN. Applications are due by October 3rd.

Benefits
- Contribute to the goals and initiatives of the greater SUID Prevention Program by participating in a chapter-wide effort to educate pediatricians about fatality review processes to improve safe sleep education and SUID prevention strategies.
- Create opportunities to get involved with chapter and AAP national as a leader in preventing infant sleep deaths.
- Network and collaborate with other Safe Sleep Champions in the SSCN through email communications.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Watch the Safe Sleep Champion Network Kick-Off Webinar Recording
- In partnership with the chapter staff, co-design and facilitate one chapter-wide webinar in Spring 2026 with a focus on sudden unexpected infant death and/or other injury topics informed by your fatality review findings in your state
- Advocate for pediatrician involvement in fatality review and strengthening connections between the AAP chapter members and CDR/FIMR coordinator
- Contribute two brief awareness-building articles, messages, and/or educational pieces for chapter communications about safe sleep and/or fatality review processes and insights
- Attend 1 mid-point check-in with SUID Prevention Program staff beginning in Spring 2026
- Provide a brief final report by June 22, 2026 (template to be provided)
Eligibility Requirements
In good standing AAP Member and/or Chapter Member (if not, willing to become a Chapter Member) and experience with or interest in safe sleep outreach, education, and/or resource development. Apply HERE.

Review the AAP Safe Sleep Recommendations and the Policy Statement on Child Death Review. Prevention Program Leadership, along with the chapter executive director, will review applicants and select a champion by October 8, 2025.
